I have had this house design around for some time, but never found the "spark" for the design that was necessary to bring it around to completion.
In this house the main living areas are on the second floor. The garage (seen at the lower right in the image below) and two bedrooms (lower left) are on the first floor. Therefore, guests (and everyone else) must walk upstairs.
I started the front deck and stairs with solid vertical white siding walls, like the rest of the house, then decided they would look better as you see them, below. Most of the house has a flat roof, except for the obvious central living area. The small dining nook at the back left also has a four-sided sloped roof. You can barely see it in the image.
On the main floor (below), you might want to note the following:
Here is my night image of the main front view. There are path lights along the right front, to light the way of folks coming over for a party (or whatever).
Night view of the rear. Yep, lots of windows on this view. I would expect the best views to be to the rear. I even installed a hot tub on the back patio. Of course, I gave the kids a swing set and slide.
This is a rear view, from over in the apple trees. That's the breakfast nook visible at the upper right. Below it is the first floor bath.
Here is the "family room". I put the word in quotes since this room is quite small. Tall, but small. In this rendition I outfitted it with exercise equipment, and a fish tank. That's the library balcony on the second floor, above.
This looks down the hall on the first floor. That's a small laundry room at the foot of the stairs. Convenient to both the bedrooms and the garage.
If we came inside the front door, this is what we'd see. I do like the cathedral ceiling, and the openings in the walls around the dining area. No, there isn't much room, but this is a small house.
From the library balcony, this looks back toward the front door.
If we stood in the hall doorway and looked toward the kitchen, this is something like what we'd see.
Now, inside the kitchen. Note the tile patterns on both the floor and the walls. Note the breakfast nook, as well.
Here is the kitchen. Not too much to say, but I do like the tile patterns.
From in front of the refrigerator, this is another view of the kitchen and the front door beyond.
It just so happens if we look down the back hall from the breakfast nook, we see a work of art nicely framed on the back wall. Perhaps that was intentional.
Here we see the small master bath. That's a shower on our immediate left. A toilet and bidet are just beyond it, on our left. A large spa tub is along the back wall. That's a folding door into the closet, on the right.
I wanted to show how the rest of the master bath is laid out.
Here is our master bedroom. It has clerestory windows that open to the back.
Here is the windows and door out onto the master bedroom deck.
