What happens when you take a Prairie style house with windows all the way around the upper floor perimeter, and convert it into a Mediterranean style?

This.

Designing the roof was a challenge, at the time, since this was one of the first house designs I did. It didn't turn out bad, at all.

Things to note in this design:

• There is a strong use of doorways instead of doors, especially in the public areas of the main floor. I think this serves to open up the space.
• Along this line, the master suite uses doorways between the "private" areas, yet is still closed off from the rest of the house.

No, there's not view from inside the front door. This is from outside the door to the master bedroom, looking down to the family room, below.
