Small Cottage #1

For this house design I wanted to see what some of the challenges would be if the limitation of space was a primary concern. So ... I kept the square footage under 2000, and tried to keep the footprint small. I know most "modern" house designs have 2-car garages, but I thought this design simply looked better with a smaller garage.

Some things worth noting:

• The house is a split-level. The garage is 1/2 level below the first floor. The bonus room (over the garage) is 1/2 level below the second floor.
• There is a bedroom in the basement, though it's pretty small.
• The front entryway is 2 feet below the first floor level, adding a small bit of interest in the main area of the house.
• The kitchen is small, but there is room for a small table.

On the second floor you might note the following:

• The master bedroom has a "small" limitation, in that there isn't a wall suitable for backing furniture against it. So ... I put a "half wall" to serve as the backdrop for the bed, and for the dressers.
• The other bedroom upstairs is tiny. Perhaps best used as a nursery, and when the baby is no longer (a baby) it could become a hobby/crafts room.

And now we present the view from inside the front door. That's the dining room through the arched doorway, living room to our left at the top of the short stairs.

Standing in the dining room doorway, this is what we would see if we looked toward the front of the house.

If we stood in the front left corner of the living room and looked back toward the dining room doorway, we can see the plant ledges overhead.

This is the master bedroom, and the "half wall" that backs up the bed. Those are closets along the left-hand wall.

I decided to show the space in the kitchen where a table could be placed. Not bad.
