This is my new writing project! A web comic/graphic novel written by yours truly, and illustrated/visualized by my stepdaughter. Recently I purchased a domain name for the site, once it's published. Check out afarsun.net.
UPDATE: My old web hosting service is holding "afarsun.com" hostage, so I've switched over to the new ".net" domain. I can't even take the old site down since they've disabled ftp access to the pages. Needless to say, they suck.
Update: Now I own both afarsun.com and afarsun.net (they both point to the same website). My new web hosting service is freaking great!!!! I can't recommend DreamHost.com enough. Yay, DreamHost!
I have posted a few pages of character bios at afarsun.net (and com), so check them out if you feel so inclined.
News! I have just completed book 2 of the story. Of course, there's also been a book 1 written. Neither are published here, but soon I'll be (very likely) podcasting the story on afarsun.com. Stay tuned and keep your ears out.
I began this story in 1991 based on earlier writings, while I was living in Atlanta, GA. I know the two main characters originated sometime around 1983 or 84, because I still have a bunch of old typewritten (and early word processor) pages. I worked on the story (then called Stories) very diligently until I "finished" book 1 in June of 1993. That's when I wrote and dated the dedication (which I have not included here, and how I know when I finished it).
Book 1 is about 320,000 words, which is about 1,060 manuscript pages, so it's a rather long read. It's also not a very happy story (much of it) but readers who persevere might find that it has a much happier ending (but this ending is in book 2).
In 1996, while I was editing book 1 (the first major edit), an event occurred that caused me to put the writing down for a while. I found I just could not write about the emotions and strong feelings of my characters, when I was feeling all those strong feelings in my own life. Yeah, divorce can be difficult. But enough of that.
I picked up the story again in 2003, renamed it to its current title and completely rewrote the last 1/3 of book 1 and re-edited the whole thing. I am much more satisfied with the result. I am in the process of editing and rewriting book 2, but as it is still not finished (about 3-400 pages remain), I'm not quite sure when it will be done.
I do plan to submit these "books" for publishing, though I sincerely believe the subject is not something suitable as a first novel. I have other novel ideas (heh) that should be much more palatable. (See the above for one such idea.)
Meanwhile, I write software, play DnD, design houses (my old new hobby) and revisit my characters (they are so familiar they seem like old friends) when I can.

I have made some new progress on the second book, recently. So far I've gone over the first 290 pages (manuscript pages), as I put chapters to bed I will post them here. I have no idea when this might be finished, since my work on "A Far Sun" is consuming so much of my time.
At some point I will post other writings here, but there are only so many hours in the day.
